Fatal crash in Ocean City dampens exciting weekend

A fatal crash in Ocean City Thursday serves as a safety reminder for those traveling into town for Cruisin’ OC. As the cars roll into town, the excitement is clearly building for the car expo this weekend.
Thousands of visitors will be on hand checking out the cars, but the fatal crash involving a motorcycle has dampened the mood, with crews cleaning up what was described by witnesses as a gruesome scene.
Lindsay Richard, Public Affairs Specialist for OCPD says “this is a very stark reminder that it is essential to be safe this weekend to drive safely to use caution when you’re out on the roadway – we don’t want anyone else’s weekend to end in tragedy we want this to be a fun weekend.”
A tragedy, but locals say it’s not surprise, one woman says to 47ABC “every year we have either people running across the street getting hit by cars something happens every year.”
A video posted online caught the beginning moments of a traffic stop that lead to the fatal crash. The man on the bike fleeing from police officers, and about 30 blocks down the road, was struck by a pickup truck. With an already heavy traffic weekend, the Northbound lane of Coastal Highway was shut down for hours. One visitor tells 47ABC “Traffic is a nightmare” adding that he and his family waited hours to get into town due to the crash.
With thousands coming out to enjoy the weekend, Richard reminds the public “we don’t want anyone to come down here and leave their care’s at home.”
