Driver who struck 10 year old pedestrian arrested for DUI

Delaware State Police have determined the driver of a vehicle that struck a 10 year old boy was under the influence of alcohol.  Officials say John Swift of Millsboro was traveling North on Iron Branch Road when he struck the boy.

The investigation revealed the boy was attempting to retrieve baseballs that had gone over a fence and crossed over into Iron Branch Road.  The boy was immediately transported to Beebe Medical Center, and later transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital, where police say he remains in serious condition.

Swift was uninjured in the crash, but was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was arrested by troopers for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving on a Suspended/Revoked License.

The road was closed from about 3:30 – 6:00PM Saturday, and DSP say the crash remains under investigation.
