Dover PD launches I Promise Pledge aiming to keep students safe on prom night

Roughly a third of alcohol-related teen traffic fatalities happen during the peak of prom season between April and June. That’s according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
That’s why Dover Police want teens to make smart choices on prom night with the launch of the I PROMise campaign.
Molly Phillips, who is in charge of the prom at Dover High school, tells 47ABC student safety was at the forefront of this idea.
“Its important for the kids to have an environment where they can have a good time with their friends a lot of them are seniors last few weeks of school and no need to out their lives in danger for one night,” says Molly Phillips.
The campaign is in partnership with the North Dover Chick-fil-A and Dover High School. To partake all students have to do is write a pledge to make smart choices on prom night.
In return they get a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich and their pledge is entered into a contest.
The Grand Prize is a limo and a dinner at Chick-Fil-A for them and seven friends before the prom.
47 ABC spoke with students who say it’s a pretty good incentive.
Corporal Hoffman, spokesman for Dover Police, says although there haven’t been any major incidents in the past he hopes this campaign will remind students one mistake could have serious consequences.
“Just think twice when they make decisions on prom night as far as using drugs or drinking any alcohol distracted driving all of these things we want everyone to go home safe on prom night.”
