Dover honors Vietnam vets and families

On Monday, over 100 gathered inside the Dover Fire Department to pay tribute to those who died serving our country in the Vietnam War, Korean War and in the Middle East.

Veterans and their families received an address from Navy Cross and Purple Heart recipient, George Malone, a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel.

“Vietnam was not a popular war. I did volunteer, a lot didn’t, maybe 30%. But they came when called. Whether you’re in the fire house, whether you’re an EMT, police, your community, when they call, you come. You don’t leave your brothers out in the cold.” Said Malone.

Malone was awarded the Navy Cross for his acts of “extraordinary heroism” during the Vietnam War.
