DNREC celebrates annual spring spectacle

DNREC celebrated the annual spring spectacle of the migrating shorebirds and spawning horse shore crabs Saturday.
Every year during this time shorebirds come to the area to feed on the eggs of horseshoe crabs.
The feast fuels the birds’ journey north to Arctic breeding grounds, some flying from as far as the southern tip of South America.
The Dupont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve provides a great view of this spectacle, as officials say Mispillion is known as the epicenter of shorebird and horseshoe crab interaction.
