‘Cats Can’t Catch Seahawks

The Delmar girls soccer team watched their season come to an end on Saturday in the first round of the DIAA State Tournament when they fell to St. Georges Tech 3-1. The Wildcats finish out the year with a 10-6 record.
The game couldn’t have started out any better for Delmar. They would draw a free kick from midfield that Brittany Knapp would send into the box. The keeper couldn’t get a good handle on it, and it would work itself into the back of the net for the easy score. The lead though would hold for about as long as the shock of seeing it go in. The Seahawks would fire right back, sending a cross into the box that Jackeline Fuentes would finish off to tie up the game. The ‘Cats would then have a chance late in the half to take a lead into the break as they drew a direct kick from just outside the box. Logan Walls would send a strike just over the upright though, and we would head to the half tied at 1-1.
Fuentes came to play in the second half though. Off a break away, she would get the lead pass and get a foot on it at the last second to sneak it by the keeper for the go-ahead score. Then minutes later, Jessica Unsihuay would send another free kick into the box, that she would knock home for the final score of the game.
