Assateague seashore creates nearly $110M economic impact

It appears tourism at the Assateague Island National Seashore has helped bring millions of dollars into the local economy.
According to their latest report, more than two million people visited the seashore last year and spent over 96 million dollars in nearby communities.
“Assateague Island National Seashore welcomes visitors from across the country and around the world,” said Superintendent Debbie Darden. “We are delighted to share the story of this place and the experiences it provides. We also feature the park as a way to introduce our visitors to this part of the country and all that it offers.”
We’re told most park visitor spending was lodging, food and beverages, gas and oil, admissions and souvenirs.
Park officials say that translates to is 1,320 jobs with a cumulative benefit of nearly 110 million dollars to the local economy.
