Wicomico MS student charged with assault on school employee

A Wicomico Middle School student has been charged, after law enforcement says he assaulted a school counselor.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says on Wednesday around 11:00 AM, during a lunch shift at Wi-Middle, a Deputy intervened in an assault by a 12-year-old student against one of the guidance counselors from the school.
Investigators say they found that the counselor was speaking with the student, when the student stepped up, and punched the counselor in the face. According to the report, the Deputy stepped in to stop the assault, but the student pushed his way through, past the Deputy, and continued attacking the counselor, who was pinned on the floor of the cafeteria.
The Sheriff’s Office says it took the Deputy, a teacher, and a school administrator to pull the student, who was still repeatedly punching the counselor, off of the counselor. The counselor was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by Salisbury EMS.
The student was then taken from the school, to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with assault second degree, and disorderly conduct. He was then reportedly detained by the Department of Juvenile Services in the Lower Shore Children’s Center, pending further court action.
