Why filing your taxes late could cost you

The deadline to file taxes in Maryland is less than two weeks away, April 14 is the date by which your tax returns must be mailed.
Financial experts recommend proofreading your tax returns two or three times to make sure all your information is correct. That includes social security numbers, bank accounts and the calculations themselves.
You also should make sure you include all pertinent information, especially relevant documents like your W-2s.
However, if you happen to send in incorrect information financial experts say it’s not the end of the world.
“They can be fixed, but then again that delays things and could potentially have to file an extension, or do amendments to things and it can become a complex matter,” said Stephanie Brown of Comprehensive Financial Solutions in Salisbury, Md.
Financial experts say where you can get in trouble is if you owe money on your tax return and you have to file for an extension, you could face additional fines from the IRS.
