Van Hollen and Szeliga projected winners for U.S. Senate seat in Maryland

Chris Van Hollen (D) and Kathy Szeliga (R)

We now know who will be competing for Senator Mikulski’s Maryland seat. Rep. Chris Van Hollen won the Democratic ticket, while Del. Kathy Szeliga won on the Republican side.

In March 2015, Senator Barbara Mikulski announced that she will not be seeking re-election. Senator Mikulski is the longest-serving woman in congressional history, and was elected in 1986.

Van Hollen, who got about 53% of the votes from the 10 total listed on the ballot, and Szeliga, who got about 35% of the votes from the 14 total listed, will be on the ballot, come November.
