UPDATE: Trooper involved crash in Camden still under investgiation

A three vehicle crash in Camden, that involved a trooper, and impacted traffic for more than three hours, remains under investigation.

Delaware State Police say the crash happened just before 7:15 AM on Wednesday, when a 27-year-old Trooper was driving his patrol car south on Route 13 – South DuPont Highway, coming up to Old North Road. A white Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck was waiting to turn left to go north on Route 13 from Old North Road, with a silver Dodge Dart car directly behind it.

As the Trooper was coming into the intersection with his lights and sirens on, the traffic light turned red, allowing the Colorado and Dart to proceed into the intersection, on a green light, according to investigators. At this point, Police say as the two vehicle tried to cross Route 13, the Trooper’s Crown Victoria hit the driver’s side of the Colorado, which then spun into the Dart.

According to the report, the Colorado spun counter clockwise, and stopped on the side of the road of Route 13 south, while the Dart made a controlled stop along the shoulder.

Authorities say, the trooper involved was transported to Kent General Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and released.

The driver of the Colorado, and a passenger, along with the driver of the Dart were all taken to KGH, where they were treated for non-life threatening and minor injuries, before being released.

Investigators say all drivers and passengers were wearing their seatbelts, and that alcohol is not a factor in the collision.

The Trooper was apparently on his was to assist another Trooper in Woodside that requested immediate assistance, before the crash.

Route 13 south was apparently closed for about three hours, while the crash was investigated and cleared.

State Troopers say, this incident still remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, and that more details will be released at the conclusion of their investigation.
