UPDATE: Salisbury man pleads guilty to first degree murder

A Salisbury man, accused of shooting another back in May, has been sentenced.
According to Wicomico County’s State Attorney, 20-year-old Shaquan Wallace pleaded guilty to first degree murder before a Wicomico County Circuit Court judge on Monday.
This comes after an investigation conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Division and the Salisbury Police Department. It revealed that in May 2015, Wallace along with another suspect, committed a home invasion in on Bryn Mawr Drive.
According to records, Wallace shot and killed James Skinner during the home invasion. Skinner was a resident of the home. Authorities say Wallace then made statements to a witness, which were recorded by law enforcement, admitting his involvement as the shooter.
Wallace was sentenced to life in prison, suspend all but an active period of incarceration of 50 years.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello tells 47 ABC Wallace will be up for parole after serving 25 years. We’re told this sentence coincides with what the state had recommended for Wallace.
“This is another senseless tragedy.” Explains Maciarello. “Another young man spends the rest of his life behind bars, there’s a person missing their family, missing their loved one and again, we need to start changing the hearts and minds of some people in our community that think that violence is going to get you somewhere. It’s going to get you behind bars, is where it gets you.”
In addition, Wallace is currently serving a sentence for a violation of probation, and his sentence in the first degree murder will be consecutive.
Authorities say he also received no credit for time served.
