UPDATE: Dogs rescued from puppy mill dispersed across peninsula, community offers support

After more than 300 dogs were removed from a property in Eden, several animal rescue groups have stepped forward to help the dogs.

Both Baywater Animal Rescue, and Talbot Humane posted on their Facebook pages, stating that they had taken in dogs from the seizure, and that they would be working to get them vetted before and applications, or adoptions could take place.

Baywater says they took in nine dogs, and are working to get the dogs groomed, spayed or neutered, and dental checks, as a minimum. They say those looking to help can donate money, or supplies to Baywater, or any of the groups who took in dogs.

Talbot says they took in 22 of the dogs from the Humane Society of Wicomico County. They too are working to get the pups groomed, heartworm tested, dental exams, and having them spayed and neutered. They wrote that they think it will cost about $10,000 to get the dogs ready for adoption. They too are asking to donations, to help.

The HSWC posted on their Facebook page Wednesday afternoon, expressing thanks for the donations, that they have received. They are now asking those looking to help, to provide a monetary donation through their PayPal. They say they may need more cleaning supplies as they use them up, but that they want to ensure all of the donations are used timely, and the products remain at full strength.

They also wrote that they most dogs have been released to the Humane Society, and that they continue to transfers to other Humane Societies to enable us to get to a manageable shelter population. They say they currently do not need any additional transfer partners. They also asked that those interested in adopting understand that it takes time to get the dogs ready, but to keep an eye on their website to find out when that will be.

Wicomico County Animal Control is apparently finishing up the required legal documentation under the direction of the State’s Attorney’s Office, at this time.

If you’d like to help, the Coastal Association of REALTORS has organized a supply drive to lend a hand. They will be collecting donations at several locations across the shore, and delivering the goods to the Humane Society of Wicomico County.
