The Streak Lives On As Vikings Hold On At Poly

The Cape Henlopen girls lacrosse team made it 91 straight in state wins Wednesday when they traveled to Polytech, and held on for a 12-10 win. The win improves the Vikings to 8-1, while the loss drops the Panthers to 7-1.

The Vikings started the game red hot from the field. Lindsay Mongile would add the first score of the game, followed shortly there after by another one from Cailey Thornburg. They would then stretch their lead to 3-0 after getting a score from Kaitlyn Klabe, before Lizzie Frederick found Thornburg to make it 4-0. It felt like Cape might pull away at the point, but finally the Panthers found their footing. A free position score form Allison McKay, followed by a score from Morgan Cook would make it a 2 goal game. Evelyn Shoop then got going, scoring 3 straight goals to help Cape take a 8-4 lead into the break. The Vikings continued to be in control of the match as they held a 4 goal lead with under 15 minutes to go. But that’s when Polytech would make their move. Jamie Trabaudo would net back to back scores, followed by 3 straight from McKay. Madilyn McKay would then score to make it a 1 goal game with 3 minutes to go. But Cape would find a way to put the match away. Shoop would put the final nail in the coffin with a great shot in the crease, and that would help give the Vikings the win.

Cape returns to work on Friday when they travel to play Worcester Prep, while Polytech travels to Sussex Academy on Thursday.
