SU & Welsey Softball Honored With CAC Awards

The Capital Athletic Conference announced the 2016 Conference Awards Thursday, with several members of the Salisbury University and Wesley teams being honored. Headlining this years group, included SU’s Margie Knight who was named the CAC Coach of the Year for the 14th time, while Molly Simpson was named the CAC Player of the Year and Brooke Mizelle was named the CAC Rookie of the Year.
Knight helped lead the Sea Gulls to their 19th CAC Conference Tournament Title, finishing the regular season with a 34-4 record. A big reason for SU’s success this year, was the career season of senior second baseman Simpson. So far in her final season at SU, she hit .472, with a NCAA leading 14 HR’s and 52 RBI’s.
Joining Simpson on the 1st-Team for SU included senior catcher Paige Knussman. The Easton grad finished another great year behind the plate, while hitting .450 at the plate, with 11 HR’s and 49 RBI’s. Kim Dorsey earned 1st-Team consideration as well, after she hit .482, with 10 HR’s and 56 RBI’s. The three combined to be one of the most dangerous trios in the nation. Kattie Sebbane and Caitlin Lake also made the list, after both hitting over .300. As for Wesley, Kayla Formal earned 1st-Team All-CAC after she hit .310 with 15 RBI’s.
Also earning 1st-Team All-CAC this year was senior pitcher Annah Brittingham. The Pocomoke grad held a 1.41 ERA, with a 17-2 record, in 114 I, including a no-hitter. On top of that, she batted .398 with 22 RBI’s. Mizelle on the other hand went 17-1, with a 1.13 record.
Three of our players were honored with 2nd-Team All-CAC this year, including LeAnne Collins for SU, after she hit .377 with 14 RBI’s. Wesley on the other hand sends Nina Marcano and Samantha Burns.
