Smyrna man arrested after hitting police patrol cars with stolen vehicle

New Castle County Police say they arrested a Smyrna man who was allegedly driving a stolen car, resisting arrest and hitting several police vehicles.

Around 6:40p.m. Friday while officers were on patrol in Edgemoor, they reportedly came across a stolen Lincoln Navigator from Wilmington. Police say during a traffic stop, 24-year-old Calvin Warren, the driver of the Navigator, backed up the SUV into a patrol vehicle.

After allegedly striking a civilian vehicle, Warren began driving towards officers at high speed. Police say he then reportedly struck two more police vehicles before coming to a stop.

Warren was then apparently taken to Wilmington Hospital for minor injuries. We’re told the two officers involved in the collisions sustained non-life threatening injuries and were later released.

New Castle County Police say Warren is being charged with second degree assault, first degree reckless endangering, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest (with force), disregarding an officers signal, second degree reckless endangering, resisting arrest, third degree vehicle assault, two (2) counts of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, two (2) counts of malicious mischief by motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, three (3) counts of fail to stop at a stop sign, two (2) counts of failure to use a turn signal, two (2) counts of failure to obey a traffic control device, no proof of insurance, and unsafe speed.

Authorities say Warren was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution on over $28,000 cash bail.
