Smyrna Edges Out Dover Amid Some Controversy

Dover baseball hosted Smyrna Tuesday night and the Eagles ended up winning a close contest 3-2.
This game was not without a little controversy over officiating calls.
Smyrna was the first to score and it was a 1-0 game for a while.
Than it was the bottom of the 5th inning and Dover was able to get the bases loaded on the Eagles. Looking to get something going and 2 outs Jordan Hutchins appeared to try and steal home and it looked as if he might have been safe, but after the home plate umpire called him out and ended the inning with Dover Scoreless, the Players, the Fans, and the Caches went crazy.
Hutchins immediately ripping off his helmet in disbelief and his teammates had to calm him back to the dugout as the coach went at it with the ump, and so did some parents in the stands. That run could have been a huge game changer but we will never be able to know for sure.
The Eagles managed to come back and score two runs in the 6th inning making it a 3-0 game.
The Senators would not be shut out though, After they load the bases once more a bater is walked to send in one run, than another rips a single and scores another. The Senators were only able to manage two runs in that inning, and no walk off would happen. This made people wonder if Jordan was called safe whose game would this have been? Smyrna improved to 4-0 after this win, while the Senators suffered their first loss of the season.
Dover will be back in action Friday against Seaford, and the Eagles will be facing Laurel on Thursday.
