Seven Run Sixth Powers Delmar Past IR

The Delmar baseball team pulled out a big conference win Saturday when they defeated Indian River 10-3, thanks to a 7 run 6th. The Wildcats improve to 5-2, while the Indians drop to 0-7.
The Indians would jump out to a quick lead, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first before Delmar was able to get one back in the bottom of the frame. Both pitchers would begin settling in from there. Jimmy Adkins would have a good feel for the strike zone and work quickly for the ‘Cats, eventually going 6 innings while striking out 7. Mark Smith was just as good for the Tribe, as he racked up K’s on his way to helping keep his team in it. Delmar would then take the lead in the 3rd after getting an RBI single, followed by a suicide squeeze, by Dale Rhodes. The lead wouldn’t last for long though, as IR would tie the game in the 6th with a solo shot to left by Joseph Anderson. The teams would head to the bottom of the 6th tied at 3-3, but that’s when Delmar went nuts. They strung together several singles, before breaking the game open with back to back RBI singles, then scoring 3 more runs off wild pitches. Jordan Haddaway then closed the door with a 2 RBI double to give Delmar their 7 run advantage.
IR returns to work on Tuesday when they travel to play Caravel, while Delmar host Lake Forest on Tuesday.
