PRMC and At&T team up to kick off “Distracted Driving Awareness Month”

For the first time ever, kicking off distracted driving awareness month, AT&T teamed up with trauma centers across Maryland to help raise awareness of the dangers associated with texting and driving.

Locally, PRMC officials joined AT&T representatives at the Centere at Salisbury allowing patrons to try out a distracted driving simulator. A virtual reality simulation gave users a first hand look at what can happen if you take your eyes off the wheel.

PRMC Trauma Nursing Director, Sarah Arnett told 47 ABC, “we as a trauma center on the Eastern Shore see approximately 1,300 trauma victims per year. Many of which are in auto accidents related to distracted driving, whether that’s text messaging, eating, putting on makeup, or turning around to talk to their kids in the car.”

Arnett also tells us that the threat of distracted driving starts to increase around this time of year coinciding with the influx tourists to beach areas.
