Presidential candidates capitalize by coming to Delmarva

In the last week two presidential candidates have visited Delmarva and after Monday, a total of three will have spent time here campaigning.

Republican front runner Donald Trump made visits to both Berlin, Md. and Harrington, Del.

Meanwhile Democratic candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D) visited Wilmington Saturday and front runner Hillary Clinton is set to visit there Monday.

47 ABC asked a few locals about how they felt about candidates visiting Delmarva.

Most said they like that candidates have come here, but think Sanders and Clinton missed out by not campaigning on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Salisbury resident Catherine Adams said she thinks Trump capitalized by doing so.

“It’s kind of nice to actually see like a figure head (Trump) here who actually is, I would say, interested in being around here over possibly the other candidates,” Adams said.

“I think they don’t see as, as big of an opportunity as they should,” said Angie Marvel speaking about Clinton and Sanders. “I think they’re missing that opportunity and I think that you know it’s going to cost them.”

Democrat Jonathan Palmer said he’s been disappointed by the lack of attention the Clinton and Sanders campaigns have shown the Eastern Shore.

“I mean I don’t think I’ve seen any Bernie or Hillary signs around here, but I see Trump signs all over the place,” Palmer said.

According to both Sanders and Clinton’s campaign calendars, neither candidate has plans of visiting the shore before Tuesday’s primary election.
