On the Job: Designers Edge

For some, getting a haircut is just something to check off your do list. But for others, it is a pampering process. This week “On the Job” 47 ABC heads to Designers Edge in Salisbury where they provide that pampering every day.
Walking into Designers Edge is like walking into hair heaven. You’re surrounded by freshly washed hair, perfect haircuts and shiny blowouts. Rosemary Topper manages the front desk and had a few things on her agenda for us to do.
First on our list, washing and conditioning our first client. The first step is making sure the water is at a comfortable temperature. Next up, shampooing! Topper says, “You just like to make sure you get in the ears just in case any water or shampoo is left in the ears there.”
After out first client was all done, it was on to our next client! And this time we were doing some highlights. So the first thing you must do? Mix the color! This time, we’re working along side Becky Lynch.
Mixing the colors is a lot like mixing a cake, it even requires you to use a tiny whisk! And at Designers Edge everything they mix up is specially prescribed for their clients.
Lynch says when you color hair, it’s always best to start from the back and work your way forward since the front of your hair takes in color much faster than the rest of your head. After watching her apply a few layers, I got in there!
And after our clients whole head was done, it was time for her to sit under a machine they call a climazon, for about 15 minutes. Lynch says, “So what it does it gives you more of a controlled heat as more of a blowing heat like our regular dryers over there so it allows the color to heat up at one time and process more evenly.”
Once she was all done, she was ready for her trim! After receiving probably the best hair cut of her life, it was time to show my client my blow drying skills! The finished product looked beautiful.
Next week 47 ABC heads to Arthur Perdue Stadium to help maintain and set up the Shorebirds field for their next big home game.
