No serious injuries after train hits car in downtown Suffolk

Authorities say no one was seriously injured when a Norfolk Southern train struck a car in downtown Suffolk.

The city said in a statement that an Acura sedan became stuck on train tracks at the intersection of South Saratoga Street and Carolina Avenue in downtown Suffolk and was struck by a westbound train around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

A 26-year-old male passenger in the car was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The car’s driver sustained minor injuries that did not require her to be taken to a hospital.

The city says the 30-year-old driver has been issued a summons for failure to stop at a railroad grade crossing.
