New VA medical outpatient clinic slated to open

A new veterans affairs outpatient clinic is in the works.

Officials broke ground on the Georgetown location Friday morning.

We’re told the roughly 10,000 square foot building will take place of the current Sussex County clinic. The building itself is not going anywhere; however, it will be leased out for another service.

Robin Aube-Warren of Wilmington VA Medical Center tells 47ABC the new clinic will offer improved waiting rooms, primary care, and additional space for group clinics.

“While we’ve a 71% percent growth in visits in the last five years and 21% in the number of veterans, we’re currently seeing but not as soon as we would like,” she says. “By using this space more effectively, we can see more patients everyday and get more in.”

The current outpatient clinic serves about 3,500 veterans in the state. Officials expect construction for the new clinic to be completed by the end of the year.
