Milford Children’s Community Gardens Project gears up for spring planting

The Milford Children’s Community Gardens Project is gearing up for the spring planting season. They’re always looking for volunteers to help out.

The project is funded through a partnership between the Division of Public Health and the Milford Community Readiness Team.

The goal is to show school-aged kids where their food comes from. Right now, six schools and centers are participating. Click here for further details.

We’re told students will be planting lots of different things like eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and onions.

Paige Evers says, “When we had kale growing last fall, it was great to see them try kale chips for the first time. Our partner from the division of health cooked that recipe for them. They came in and just demolished the whole tray of kale chips in seconds. They even wanted the recipe to take home.”

The official planting date is May 13th. To learn how to volunteer or donate to the gardening project, contact Karen Long at karen.long@state.de.us.
