General Assembly still has work to do with one day left

Only one day remains in the Maryland legislative session, but plenty of work still needs to be done.
Monday both the house and senate will be waiting for negotiators to work out their differences in some high priority bills between chambers.
The legislature still has not passed a bill to reform the state’s correctional system, but house and senate negotiators reached a compromise Saturday night.
The measure aims to save money by reducing incarceration of nonviolent drug offenders and increasing investments in treatment.
Lawmakers will also be working on a tax-relief plan and legislation to require ignition interlock devices for drunken drivers.
“Monday’s going to be a very, very busy day, so I encourage people to get involved an participate, call our office and reach out to the Eastern Shore Delegation,” said Sen. Jim Mathias (D).
The session is set to end Monday night at midnight.
