Dover man charged after reportedly running from traffic stop

Julius Johnson, 28, of Dover, Del.

A Dover man is facing charges, after Police say he fled from a traffic stop with drugs on him.

The Dover Police Department says on Friday around 11:40 AM, Officers with Delaware Probation and Parole pulled over a car near Fulton and Queen Street, but the driver immediately ran from the stop on foot. Officers say they chased after the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Julius Johnson, and were able to take him into custody, after a struggle.

A Probation and Parole Officer was reportedly minorly injured their leg while following Johnson. During the chase, Johnson apparently threw a bag with 3.6 grams of crack cocaine, and Police say he also had 22.6 grams of marijuana on him. Investigators say they found out that Johnson had been selling crack cocaine in the area before the traffic stop.

After his arrest, Johnson was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, felony count of resisting arrest with force, assault second degree on law enforcement officer, and traffic offenses. He was then ordered to be held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $32,401 secured bond.
