Delaware seeks public comment on proposed state aging plan

Delaware continues to be a popular state for older people to retire in and the state wants your help in planning for the future of an aging population. According to the Delaware Department of Health and Social Service, 1 in 5 Delawareans is 60 or older.
That is why its Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities is asking for public comment on its proposed state plan on aging for the period of October 2016 to September 2020. Every four years the division puts out a plan with goals they want to achieve in order to get funding for services such as nutrition programs, disease and health prevention, and caregiver support programs.
Julie Miller, a planner for Delaware Division of Services for Aging Adults with Physical Disabilities says, “we want to make sure that our programs within the division are a response to the needs of Delawareans and we don’t know that unless we hear from the general public. We want to make sure our programs are effective and that we are using our money from the federal government as well as the one we get from the state of Delaware.”
The Division will be hosting public hearings in each county all month. Once all the hearings take place the final state plan should be submitted by July 1st.
