Community reacts to neighbors arrested on child abuse charges

Neighbors on West Street in Milford pointed out the house where they say Bridget Sauls, a 17-year-old girl and Ivray Sauls Sr. live.

One neighbor who wished not to be identified says, “He was taking my trash barrel out each week. I noticed last week it wasn’t out.”

The Sauls and the 17-year-old were arrested on child abuse charges. According to police, a 5-year-old and 2-year-old were living with them.

We’re told the youngest suffered from several injuries, including burns, earlier this month. Apparently, the 17-year-old pushed the child into a heater. Reports say the 2-year-old hadn’t been given proper hygiene.

The neighbor who lives right next door to the alleged abusers continues, “It’s terrible. I didn’t realize anything like that was happening. I know I’ve seen the police come up there, but I don’t pay any attention. I get out the way.”

Rosalva Gonzalez lives across the street and says she used to see the children come and go in and out of the house. She goes on, “Kids are defenseless. You should never do that.”

Police say the children have been taken by the Division of Family Services. The Sauls and the 17-year-old were released on bond. 47 ABC knocked on the door of their apparent house, but no one was home.

One neighbor hopes they don’t come around. She continues, “I just don’t know. The people around here aren’t like they used to be.”

The 17-year-old was charged with first degree child abuse for allegedly shoving the 2-year- old into the heater. Bridget Sauls and Ivray Sauls Sr. are both charged with second degree child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
