Cape Henlopen H.S. first public school in nation to perform “School of Rock”

The set is ready, the lights are hung, but this isn’t your traditional high school musical. Students at Cape Henlopen are hitting the stage with guitars, drums, and plenty of rock and roll as they become the first public high school in the nation to perform “School of Rock”.
Martha Pfeiffer, the director of the show tells 47ABC “this is the first show we’ve ever sold tickets in advance that we actually have so many people in the school saying “hey, we’re coming, when is it?” and I think it’s because they know the film.”
The original movie stars, Jack Black, and his character Dewey Finn is being played in this production by senior Adam Latta-Morissette. With only three weeks to prepare, the cast underwent their own “School of Rock”. Latta-Morissette tells 47ABC that [the band] “all had to learn for the audition, and then from the audition get our music and learn the music. So I think it’s satisfying we had a check mark, and had to get to this point and we got there.”
Aaron, who credits Pfeiffer for his love of acting (he will be attending the New York Film Academy on scholarship) says he and the cast work so hard for their teacher. “She’s just really good at what she does, she doesn’t accept us doing anything less than awesome, which is cool, because we put on really good shows.” he tells 47ABC. Which is why he nominated Pfeiffer for a Tony Award for teaching. She has made it to the final few rounds and if she wins, she says she hopes it will benefit her students. “Then you go to the after party with like Lin-Manuel Miranda from “Hamilton” I mean he’s up for best musical, and Andrew Lloyd Weber will be there for “School of Rock” and so I want to network I want to meet all these people and bring Lin-Manuel Miranda down here and talk to my kids”.
Shows at Cape Henlopen will be performed April 29th, 30th as well as May 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th. Friday and Saturday Shows are at 8:00 PM and the Sunday Matinee is at 2:00 PM. More information can be found on their Facebook page: http://bit.ly/1SE1xER
