Bridgeville woman, 23, faces third DUI charge

Members of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department say Elizabeth D. Hamilton, 23, was arrested on a third offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after she was pulled over for allegedly committed several traffic violations on Rehoboth Avenue on Monday night. 

According to police, around 11:15 PM, an officer parked along the shoulder of Rehoboth Avenue says a vehicle, operated by Hamilton, sped past him at rate police say is unsafe for the wet roadway conditions. Police say that officer observed Hamliton swerving in her lane as well.

Upon initially contacting Hamilton, police say the officer observed that she was showing signs of impairment, and a record check showed that her driver’s license was expired.  Hamilton was reportedly administered a standardized field sobriety test during which she showed more signs of impairment. 

According to Police, Hamilton was taken into custody, a blood analysis search warrant was obtained and she transported to Beebe Healthcare where a blood draw was performed.         

Police say she was subsequently charged with one count of third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, one count of driving a vehicle at an unreasonable or imprudent speed, one count of failure to remain within a single lane, one count of driving with an expired license, and one count of failure to have insurance identification in possession. 

Hamilton was arraigned and according to RBPD, is being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $3153.00 secured bail.
