Autism Delaware brings “Smart Cookie” to DE legislators

Handing out cookies and sharing experiences about autism, that’s what “Autism Delaware” was doing on Thursday at Legislative Hall. April marks “Autism Awareness Month” and every year, “Autism Delaware” representatives visit legislators to hand out cookies in hopes of sharing their stories and generate support for the disorder.

47 ABC spoke with executive director Teresa Avery says this event helps legislators understand the evolving needs of support for families.

Avery says, “The legislators really enjoy hearing from families, you know, these are the people they represent, they want to know what their needs are so they’re very welcoming to the folks when they come in, and they just love seeing them every year bring those cookies and share their stories so its just become a fun tradition.”

Avery also tells us, the Senate, the House, and the Governor all made official proclamations about “Autism Awareness Month”.
