Woman involved in fatal stabbing takes guilty plea

Flowers are still sitting outside of the Duck Inn in Pocomoke City in remembrance of Derrick Collick.

Darrius West says, “Some real tragic things happened down here. I lost one of my friends you know. Rest in peace to my guy.”

The 25-year-old was stabbed by Kaniesha Johnson.  Her sister Latoya Johnson took a plea deal Wednesday, admitting to accessory after the fact of first degree murder as well as second degree assault.

Kaniesha already pleaded guilty to first degree murder and second degree assault. Prosecutors called Collick’s stabbing a “premeditated attack.”

According to court documents, on October 26th the sisters pulled up to the convenience store next to a gas pump in Latoya’s white caravan. They got into an altercation originally involving three other people.

Cameras caught Kaniesha and Latoya coming from that white caravan. Kaniesha was carrying a knife. Latoya was holding a baseball bat.

The surveillance video was shown in court Wednesday where prosecutors claimed it “depicted a clear and unmistakable picture.”

Prosecutors say Collick came out of the Duck Inn to break up the fight and was stabbed by Kaniesha. Latoya was swinging a bat at another man involved in the fight.

After the stabbing, Kaneisha hopped in the passenger seat of her sister’s van and Latoya drove off.  The state claims the two sisters came back a short time later and parked their van across the street from the convenience, watching Collick struggle to get help.

Latoya’s defense denies that was her van. The vehicle can’t be seen in the surveillance video clearly.

Latoya Johnson is facing a maximum of 20 years in jail. A pre-sentencing investigation has been ordered for her. Kaniesha’s sentencing is scheduled for April 1st.
