Wicomico County urges residents to register cell phone numbers for emergency alerts

One local county is setting up a citizen notification method, in case of an emergency.

Wicomico County, says the Communicator System is a citizen notification method that will automatically notify the Citizens of Wicomico County of important information in the event of an impending or occurring emergency, by telephone.

Officials say the system uses telephone company phone listings and addresses, and then place calls to residences in specific areas, or countywide.

Telephone companies apparently don’t keep data bases for cellular phones that include addresses, so those numbers must be added with an address in order for a cellular customer to receive the informational call.

If you’d like to be added to the list, you have to register your cell phone with the Department of Emergency Services on their website.
