Warriors March Past Trojans To Xfinity Center

Two more win. That’s all that’s on the Pocomoke boys basketball team after the Warriors topped Kent County in the regional title game on Saturday 80-62. Pocomoke will now face Clear Spring at the Xfinity Center on Friday in the state semifinals.

The Trojans would come out of the gate on the attack early. Marcquan Greene would find Manny Camper for a few easy scores, while Shemar Turner would connect on a couple baskets of his own. The team would be tied at 10-10 after one, before the Trojans would take a 3 point lead after Turner drilled a short jumper.

That’s when the home team finally got cooking. Tyrone Matthews would get to the rack for a couple buckets. Jerrick Johnson would then make it happen defensively, coming up with 3 straight blocks on Camper to spark the fast break. Tyree Thornton would add a couple jumpers himself as Pocomoke would take the lead. Then late in the quarter, Matthews would get to the rim for 2 to cap off a quarter dominated by Pocomoke 23-14 to give them a 33-24 lead at the break. Matthews then began to really get going in the 3rd, hitting back to back 3’s, followed by a floater in the lane for 2 more of his team high 21. Camper would start to get more aggressive for the Trojans, but would be whistled for his 4th personal with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. Kent County elected to keep him in the game, and just 2 minutes later he would get called for a charge for his 5th personal. Once that happened, Pocomoke would start to face guard Greene, putting the scoring squarely on Turner. He would answer the bell, pouring in 17 points in the 4th quarter alone. Pocomoke though was able to get out in the open court and was getting scoring from everywhere as they lead swelled to over 20, and they were able to close it out for the win.
