Vogue 54 brings something new to Fenwick

Southern hospitality, that’s what co-owners of hair salon Vogue on 54,  Darren Poole (North Carolina) and Brandon Tatum, have brought to Fenwick Island.

However, in an area where almost half the population is over the age of 65-years-old, according to the most recent census, Vogue on 54 is doing something new. They’re willing to come to their clients if they’re sick or have trouble leaving their home.

“Some of your clients sometimes aren’t able to get out, there could be a surgery, there could be a new baby in the house, anything like that,” Poole said.

Poole adds that they have the necessary equipment to take a full salon experience to someone’s house. Poole said that they will even give tips to people who may be stuck at home for extended amounts of time on how to use things like dry shampoo if they have trouble getting into a shower or bath. Because as Poole and Tatum say, hair care can make people feel good about themselves.

“They can feel still beautiful at the same time while their at home, I mean you still have people that come over and visit and that sort of thing,” Poole said.

Vogue on 54 will also work with cancer patients who wear wigs. Poole said they’ll cut a wig to any style the client wants.

All of this is a little different than what most salons offer, but for Poole and Tatum it’s just how they were raised.

“We like to get down and on the same level with the client, not that we’re above them in anyway, we don’t want them to feel that we’re above them we just like to be genuine people, just like them and become part of their family and them become part of ours,” Tatum said.
