Valdez provides the heroics as Hawks score first home win

The UMES baseball team got their first home win of the season, defeating Coppin State on a Jessey Valdez walk-off to win 4-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Hawks trailed 3-0 until they got on the board via a balk in the third inning. The home team tied it up in the bottom of the 6th off a 2-run Conner Breslin double. Valdez provided the heroics in the bottom of the seventh, delivering the game-winning single on a deep line-drive to right center, bringing Jordan Martin home to score.

UMES (5-14) is back in action in another doubleheader at home against Mount St. Mary’s this Tuesday, beginning at 1:00 in the afternoon.
