UPDATE: Wicomico Co. to host public forum on poultry houses

One local county is hosting a public forum about the amount of chicken houses that should be allotted in the area.
On Thursday, Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver announced that the county will be hosting a public forum on the expansion of the size, and number of poultry houses within the county. The meeting is set for March 22 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, in the Midway Room of the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. Members of the community are encouraged to attend to express their opinion on the matter.
“The poultry industry has been a vital part of our economy for decades. With the development of larger poultry houses, and the denser clustering of them, many residents of the County have expressed concerns ranging from proximity to developments to environmental impact,” said Culver. “In order to address these concerns in the most factual manner possible, we’ve invited a panel of experts to address these issues and answers questions from the public.”
That panel will apparently include a representative for the the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture, the Acting Director of the Land Management Administration, and the Chief Animal Feeding Operation Program Manager, plus the Maryland Department of the Environment, and the Director of Environmental Health Bureau, and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Culver, and the County Council will also be in attendance.
