UPDATE: Man found dead following hazmat investigation in Salisbury

A hazmat and death investigation is underway after police say, a man was found dead inside a home where an unknown chemical was detected.
According to Captain Rich Kaiser with the Salisbury Police Department, officers initiated an investigation into the suspicious death of a 50-year-old man, around 6:30 PM, Monday evening.
Officials say just before 5:15 PM, Salisbury Police Officers conducted a proactive patrol checks in the area of Mabel Avenue. According to records, at that time Officers noticed a suspicious car parked in a dirt parking lot, next to an abandoned building.
Upon further investigation, the car was unattended, and appeared to be covered in an unknown chemical which had a strong, noxious odor.
Officers furthered their investigation, matching the owner of the car to a house on the 600 block of Liberty Street.
Authorities say, officers then responded to that house, in an effort to locate the owner of the car. At the home, officers knocked on the door, but did not receive an answer.
With closer inspection into the residence, officers were able to observe a man laying on the floor. Once inside, officers say, they were quickly overwhelmed by the fumes from an unknown chemical, and evacuated. With further assistance from the Salisbury Fire Department, officials began a decontamination process.
Authorities say, once inside, again, they found the 50-year-old man dead. According to the records, the body of the victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical examiner for further examination and to determine a cause of death.
At this time the detectives and emergency medical personnel are attempting to identify the chemical that was found in both the house, and car.
Captain Kaiser tells 47 ABC, the unidentified chemical was just confined to the home involved, and no surrounding residents are at risk.
Officials say, the identity of the victim is not being revealed at this time, and this investigation is on-going.
