The Chief of Police in Bridgeville is moving onto another town, according to a post on the Department’s official Facebook page.

Chief Robert Longo begins the post by saying “I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to my staff, the Town Commissioners and the citizens of Bridgeville for affording me the opportunity to be your Police Chief the past 5 years. Furthermore, you have my heartfelt gratitude and respect for the prayers many of you provided to my family and I during some serious family health issues. For that I am forever grateful and it is a debt I can never repay.”

In the post, Longo lists some of the accomplishments the department made during his five-year tenure, including a reduction in “major crime, nuance crime, and hot spot crime,” and the implementation of the COPS for KIDS program, which has donated funds to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to help fight childhood cancer, among other significant accomplishments.

Longo continues, “Despite the honor it has been to have successfully served as the Bridgeville Chief of Police, I have decided after lengthy contemplation to take the position of Chief of Police in another town.”

Bridgeville city officials says right now, there are no plans of an interim police chief; however, a lieutenant within the department will be charge once Chief Longo leaves on April 7th.

We’re told the process of searching for a new police chief has also yet to be determined.

47 ABC will follow-up with more details as they come in. For Chief Longo’s post, visit: https://www.facebook.com/bridgevillepolice/
