UMES prof. weighs in on U.S.-Cuba economic benefits

As the relationship between the United States and Cuba seems to be getting better, we’re told down the line we may see private investments from the U.S. into Cuba. In the near future were told a few tourism industries will likely see an impact.
Dr. Vichet Sum, chair and associate professor of business, management and accounting at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore says that a better relationship between the two countries will have positive long-term affects on both sides. For both the U.S. and Cuba he says airlines and hotels would see positive gains. Allowing for travel to both countries and Cubans would be able to work in the U.S. and send money back home.
Sum says in the States an industry popular around here would benefit from a new place to sell.
“it’s always good to have a new market.” Said Dr. Sum. “when Cuba has more demand for produce and poultry and all of this, it’s going to trickle down to our local business environment here,
Presidents Obama and Castro will attend a state dinner and tomorrow President Obama will deliver a speech to the Cuban people.
