The Bucs Stop Here

The Milford Buccaneers saw their incredible season come to an end on Sunday when they fell in the state quarterfinals to Sanford 64-49. The Bucs would be red hot from downtown, connecting on 10 3’s, but couldn’t slow down Mikey Dixon and would ultimately come up a little but short in their upset attempt.
Dixon came out of the gates red hot for Sanford, connecting on a three ball, while hammering down 2 thunderous dunks. The Bucs then got going from the outside. Son Martinez connected on back to back 3’s from the corner before Henry Nesmith would knock down a pair of his own. Still, Dixon would have nine points in the first quarter to help his team to a 19-11 lead. The Milford continued to shoot well from the outside in the second quarter and after 3 more 3’s they found themselves down just 24-20. That’s when Dixon again took over, connecting on yet another long ball, while hammering home a big transition slam. They would stretch their lead to 40-23 by halftime.
The Bucs would then continue to jack up the long ball in the 3rd, but wouldn’t have as much success to start. Milford remained hanging around in the game though, thanks to several offensive rebounds. Once the 4th quarter came, Milford had one last run in them. Brion Murray would score a 3 ball, then get to the rack for an and one. Then Nesmith would go nuts connecting no 3 straight long balls of his own to cut the deficit down to just 12. Dixon though was not going to let the lead completely slip away as he would get to the cup for 3 straight scores in the games final 4 minutes to shut the door on any comeback attempt.
