Sharptown native named “Senior Shore Sailor Of The Year”

Petty Officer 1st Class Kevin Owens, a native of Sharptown, has earned the title of Senior Shore Sailor Of The Year by the U.S. Navy.

“This is a blessing only made possible by those who have put me in a position to succeed by forcing me to adapt and overcome, and my goal is to pay it forward,” said Owens.

We’re told Owens, a cryptologic technician, is responsible for acting as a technical analyst that provides support to forward deployed Naval units.

Dawn Scott, an official with the Navy Office of Community Outreach, says Owens is also the leading petty officer of his division.

“The Navy has constantly forced me to change and adapt to new challenges. This has only continued to help me become the person I am today,” added Owens.

Owens is a 2008 home school graduate and has served in the Navy for seven years.
