Several students reportedly taken from WiHi to PRMC

Salisbury Emergency Services confirms that multiple students have been taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center from Wicomico High School.

Wicomico County Public School Officials tell 47 ABC that there is a Middle School Choral Festival underway at the WiHi Auditorium, with groups from all over the Eastern Shore participating. After their performance, that group moved into the sight reading room.

It was at this point that several students, between five and seven from that one group, reported feeling ill. Officials say the students were brought out of the auditorium, to be looked at by medical personnel. Those students were apparently then transported to PRMC.

The chorus whose students reported symptoms has apparently finished at the festival, and is no longer at the auditorium. Wicomico Public Schools says the festival and school are both continuing at Wicomico High School, as scheduled.

Tracy Sahler, Public Information Officer for Wicomico County Public Schools, says “At this time it appears a number of factors may have been involved: All seven of the students who reported feeling ill had not eaten breakfast prior to the festival, and the room in which the chorus did sight reading was warm at the time.”

Carbon monoxide poisoning has apparently been ruled out.

Details are limited. We’ll continue to update as more information becomes available. Stay tuned to 47ABC and 47ABC.com for the latest.
