Rehoboth commissioners eliminate $2-million City Hall deficit

Rehoboth Beach where we’re told a $2-million dollar deficit surrounding the construction of the new City Hall is now gone.

Commissioner Stan Mills tells us that through what he calls “creative financing” the city was able to cut the $2-million difference without compromising the quality of the new. We’re told that creative financing consists of using loan money, delaying certain projects surrounding the new facility and using funding from the state’s telecommunication tax. Mills also says the mayor and commissioners will handle the building’s furniture and fixtures themselves, saving over half a million dollars.

“The city was fortunate enough to secure some 911 funds to target and fund the 911 center rather than taking money from our loan proceeds. We’re also deferring some floor and maintenance on the convention center and deferring some other things that we can still do in the future,” Said Mills.

The new city hall building is set to open next Spring.
