Police arrest half naked Salisbury man after attempted assault

Authorities in Wicomico County say a Salisbury man was taken into custody over the weekend after an apparent assault on a deputy.

On Saturday around 2:00 AM a deputy with the Wicomico Sheriff office reportedly responded to a home on Pheasant Drive to speak to a subject regarding his involvement in a hit and run accident. That’s when officials say, 42-year-old Mark Townsend exited the residence, only in his underwear, and began approaching the deputy yelling aggressively. As Townsend advanced towards the deputy with raised clenched fists the deputy reportedly instructed Townsend to retreat into his residence. Instead of complying, he allegedly continued towards the deputy making threatening profanity laced statements. Officials say, at that point the deputy took action to take him into custody. After an apparent struggle the deputy was able to take him into custody.

Townsend has been charged with 2nd degree attempted assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. His bond has been set to $5,000.
