Pocomoke Punches Ticket To Title, Trounce Clear Spring

The Pocomoke boys basketball team punched their ticket to the 1A State Title game Friday when they rolled past Clear Spring 86-65. The Warriors had built up a 30 point lead by the second quarter thanks to their pressure defense, and road their lead to the win.
Pocomoke couldn’t have asked for a better start. Tyrone Matthews and Tyler Nixon were both on top of their game, coming up with several steals on the perimeter that lead to run out lay ins. The lead would swell to double digits just minutes into the game. Nixon would step into a rhythm 3 ball and net it from the top of the arc to give his team a 22-5 lead with a couple minutes left in the 1st. Then lead would balloon to over 30 by the second quarter as the game was quickly growing out of hand. The Blazers would then begin to trim away at their deficit, led by Spencer Shultz who finished with a game high 34 points. Clear Spring was aided in their comeback attempt by foul trouble across the front line of the Warriors, as LiCurtis Whitney and Leander Roberts both would find themselves straddled with early fouls. Then Jerrick Johnson would take a hard foul early in the third quarter and would leave the game for precautionary reasons. The lead though was too good as Matthews continued to add buckets in transition finishing with 22, while Nixon would connect on freethrows down the stretch to put the game away on his way to ending with a team high 31 points.
Pocomoke will now play in the state title game on Friday against Lake Clifton.
