Pocomoke Edges Mardela, Head To Regional Title

The Pocomoke girls basketball team advance to the 1A East Regional Championship game Thursday night when they pulled out a 55-39 win over Mardela. The Warriors will now host Cambridge SD on Saturday.

The teams would be in a battle early on as Tymera Deshields would get the home team started, pouring in 6 of her 21 points in the first quarter alone. Mardela though was hanging right with them, thanks to a balanced effort leading to an 11-11 tie headed to the second. There, Dynaisha Christian would take over for Pocomoke, going for 10 points in the 2nd quarter alone on her way to also having 21. That would help Pocomoke grab a 32-23 lead at the break. Mardela continued to battle in the 3rd, getting 4 of Aerionna Joynes team-high 9 points in the 3rd, while Armani Banks would also knock down a long jumper. But the duo of Deshields and Christian would prove to be too much as they grabbed a healthy lead, and would be able to hold on to it in the 4th for the win.
