On the Job: A+ Driving School

Turning 16 means many things. You can get a job, you can join the army, and you can finally get your drivers license! It can be a monumental step in a teenagers life, giving them the freedom of going places when they want and not taking the big yellow bus to school. But obtaining that shiny new license is not as easy as it looks. This week on “On the Job” 47 ABC heads over to A+ driving school to brush up on some driving skills!
Instructor Sandy Greer is part owner of A+ driving school and has graduated many students over the years. For those looking to refresh their memories of Maryland driving laws, they can take a driver improvement program. This program can also be used for those who get points on their licenses.
Besides the online option, A+ driving school also offers classes which include white board demonstrations and slideshows. Next, it was time to get into the real car! Before you get to driving, you must check for blind spots, and adjust your seat to ensure that you are comfortable. Next you adjust your side mirrors and then you buckle your seat belt.
When all those steps were completed, you’re ready for the driving course! First order, parking in a standard spot. Easy enough! Next, the tougher test. Backing into a spot lined with orange cones. After successfully backing into the spot, it was time to take the car out on the real roads!
While you’re driving, the examiners are trained to ask you what sign you just passed and you have to watch the signs because they don’t ask you until you’re past it. After stopping at a few stop signs and circling around the neighborhood a few more times my test was finally complete. Watch out Maryland!
Next week 47 ABC heads to the Salisbury Zoo to play zoo keeper for the day.
