OC Surf Club will now let you adopt your own beach

It’s always pleasant to look at the Ocean City beach and see nothing but the sand, sea shells and waves. In order to keep it that way the Ocean City Surf Club is asking beach-goers to do their part through their “Adopt Your Beach” program.
“you go, you take a sense of humor with you, and you go out and you pick up trash and have some fun with it. It can actually be a pretty good event for a family or employees of a company,” Said membership director Tommy Vach.
Effie Cox, the environmental and scholarship chairperson added “it’s about a sense of pride for the local people who are adopting their beach,
Anyone can join the program and there’s no cost involved. It allows each member or group to adopt an area of the beach between streets. After signing up participants are required to schedule four clean-up dates per year between April and November. We’re told that since it’s recent approval from city council which officially allowed the adoptions to take place support has been plentiful.
Cox told 47 ABC, “the beaches, the streets are filling up really quick with people saying I want to do this area,”
Each member who adopts is also required to fill out a data collection form to help with research efforts. Submitting information back to the club listing all of the items found during their trip from cigarette butts to water bottles. That info would then be relayed to the Maryland Coastal Bays Program and the OC Green Team.
“we really have found out that we really don’t have a baseline or anything where we have information of exactly what they’re finding,” Said Cox.
She tells us that the beach is the number one priority, however, she says don’t forget about the dunes if you decide to adopt.
