MD voters close to having a say in fantasy sports betting

A bill that would make Maryland the first state to let its voters decide whether fantasy sports betting is illegal is set to go before the house of delegates this week.

According Del. Carl Anderton Jr., the state senate voted unanimously this past week to pass two bills.

The first, would ask voters to decide in November whether to allow for commercial daily fantasy sports betting.

The other, would define daily fantasy sports betting as illegal unless voters say otherwise.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh previously asked lawmakers to clarify the law and noted that commercial gambling expansion requires voter approval.
